After the conclusion of the Western Conference Finals, the stage is set for this year’s Stanley Cup Final. The NHL’s remaining teams, the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers, will compete against each other in the 2023-24 matchup to claim Lord Stanley’s prestigious trophy.

When the Stanley Cup Final commences on Saturday, both teams will have a significant opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities. The Panthers, having reached the championship round for the second consecutive year, face the pressure to determine if they can secure their first-ever Cup victory. On the other hand, the Oilers have not reached this stage in nearly two decades and have been waiting for 35 years to claim the ultimate victory.

This year’s championship matchup offers numerous NHL betting opportunities. This article aims to kickstart the discussion by analyzing the initial Oilers vs. Panthers odds and sharing my early predictions for the Stanley Cup Final.

Early Oilers vs Panthers Stanley Cup Final Predictions & Best Bet

All previous events in the 2023-24 playoffs hold no significance at this moment. The Oilers and Panthers will begin anew this weekend, allowing time to determine who will emerge triumphantly when all is said and done.

As previously stated, the Oilers find themselves in unfamiliar territory as it has been nearly two decades since their last appearance in the Stanley Cup Final. Their journey to the championship round has been marked by victories against tough competitors, including the Los Angeles Kings (in 5 games), their rivals the Vancouver Canucks (in 7 games), and the Dallas Stars (in 6 games). It comes as no surprise that Connor McDavid, with 31 points, and Leon Draisaitl, with 28 points, have emerged as Edmonton’s standout performers thus far.

On the other hand, the Panthers have made it to the title game for the second consecutive year, with the hope of a different outcome this time around. After defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games, Florida swiftly eliminated the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers in just six matchups.

Matthew Tkachuk, leading his teammates with 14 assists and 19 points, is one of the three players on the Panthers’ postseason run who has contributed at a remarkable point-per-game rate.

Matthew Tkachuk continues to be the Panthers’ best player throughout the 2023-24 NHL postseason.

In the initial stages of the playoffs, both teams struggled to find reliable goaltending. However, this pattern took a turn in the conference finals. Stuart Skinner of the Oilers displayed exceptional performance with a 1.91 goals-against average and .923 save percentage across six games against the Dallas Stars. Similarly, Sergei Bobrovsky of the Panthers proved his skills by achieving a 1.89 GAA and .921 SV% in his games against the New York Rangers.

The Oilers take the lead in special teams, with the highest rates in the NHL for both power play (37.3%) and penalty kill (93.9%). In comparison, the Panthers rank sixth (23.3%) and second (88.2%) in these categories.

During the regular season in 2023, the Panthers achieved a perfect 2-0 record against the Oilers. They secured a 5-3 win at home and a 5-1 victory on the road. However, it is worth noting that out of the last 25 encounters between Edmonton and Florida, the Oilers have emerged victorious in 19 of them.

The Oilers tend to win more often than not when they face the Panthers. Will that trend continue into the Stanley Cup Final?

There are two possible outcomes for this series. Firstly, the Panthers, being a deeper team with the experience of playing in the Stanley Cup Final last year, could come out on top. On the other hand, we cannot overlook the influence of McDavid and Draisaitl, coupled with the support of an entire country cheering them on.

I’ll take the Panthers to win, though, mainly because of last postseason’s experience. The Oilers are still young and have a lot of learning to do, which could come back to bite them in this series.

As for the best bet, I’m taking Connor McDavid to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. He’s easily been the best player throughout the playoffs and is more than good enough to win this award, whether the Oilers win or lose the series. After all, five players in NHL history have won the Conn Smythe while being on the losing team.

McDavid is the one who can be the sixth, if anyone.
