The WNBA will shortly press the pause button for nearly a month, but before it does, there’s a tasty #1 vs #2 matchup to look forward to tonight as the Connecticut Sun visit the New York Liberty (7:00 pm ET, Amazon Prime Video).
After the conclusion of today’s four games and tomorrow’s two games, there will be no further regular season action in the league until August 15.
The Liberty, who currently lead the league with a record of 20-4, will either head into the break with a two and a half game advantage at the top of the WNBA standings, or the Sun (18-5) will trail closely behind by just a half-game.
After their defeat against the Indiana Fever, New York rebounded by securing three consecutive victories. Among these was a 71-68 triumph at Mohegan Sun Arena just six days ago. This marked their second victory at that venue this season, contributing to two out of Connecticut’s three home losses.
Will tonight’s game at Barclays Center see the Sun overturn their fortune? Or will the Liberty secure their third consecutive win against the Sun this season? Another thrilling match is anticipated.

Connecticut Sun vs New York Liberty Betting Analysis
In order for the Liberty to secure their first championship this season, they will need to overcome tough competition, like the Sun.
The playoffs present a unique challenge compared to the regular season. However, the Liberty have proven themselves against potential opponents in the second round or WNBA Finals, winning 5 out of 6 games against the Sun (2-0), Aces (1-0), Lynx (1-1), and Storm (1-0).
New York found themselves trailing at some point in the fourth quarter in both previous encounters against Connecticut, yet they managed to rally and secure the victory.
During the initial encounter on June 8, the Sun, who were yet to taste defeat, held a five-point advantage in the early stages of the fourth quarter. However, the Liberty managed to shift the momentum with a 12-2 streak and ultimately emerged victorious with a score of 82-75. Similarly, in their recent clash on Wednesday, the team found themselves trailing 68-67 with 2:11 remaining on the clock but effectively prevented their opponents from scoring any further points until the end of the game.
Will the Sun be able to seal the deal tonight? Although their impressive road record stands at 8-2, the Sun have not performed well against top teams, unlike the Liberty who have excelled in such matchups.
The Sun have struggled against the Liberty, Aces, Lynx, and Storm, winning only 2 out of 6 games. Their ATS (against the spread) record is even worse at 1-5. Interestingly, both of their victories have been against the Lynx. In one game, they narrowly won in overtime thanks to late free throws at home. In another, they were fortunate to benefit from Napheesa Collier’s injury, ultimately securing a 78-73 win in Minneapolis on July 4.
The Sun team offers many positive aspects to appreciate, while the Liberty team does have some concerns. One area of concern lies with Breanna Stewart who has yet to find her shooting rhythm, currently holding a 0 for 14 record from three-point range in four games this month.
However, when it comes to a game that is expected to be determined in the later stages, there is only one team that I have confidence in, and that is the team playing on their home turf. They have already demonstrated their strength twice against the Sun, and I believe they will do so once again tonight.

Sun vs Liberty Picks: Liberty -4 & DeWanna Bonner to have 8+ rebounds (+150 at Bovada)
I anticipate yet another closely contested match-up between Connecticut and New York. However, I believe that the Liberty will manage to cover the spread due to their strong finish and ability to convert late free throws.
In my opinion, the total score for tonight’s game is not looking promising. The record shows that in New York’s home games, the over has been successful 8 times out of 12. However, in their matches against the Sun (1-1), Aces (0-1), Lynx (0-2), and Storm (0-1), including home games against Seattle and Minnesota, the over has only hit once in five games. Despite this trend, considering the low total compared to most Liberty games, I would still slightly lean towards recommending the over for a total pick.
Although I appreciate point props, my top choice for a Sun-Liberty prop pick is for Bonner to excel in rebounding. In the previous game against New York, she secured eight rebounds, and in the recent contest, she grabbed nine. Moreover, she has managed to secure eight or more rebounds in seven out of ten road games for Connecticut this season. Considering the alignment of trends, the value at +150 is truly outstanding.
